You know that feeling when you see something interesting and you just have to get closer to check it out? No? Well, I do – it’s a feeling I get a lot when exploring new places. Who knows, you might just find the world’s best carrot cake or the best views ever…
A beautiful day in August I went for a drive (I like driving – especially when it takes me to new places) 🚗 The plan was just a little drive and a walk in Calpe, Alicante. I drove down to Calpe and found a road leading along the coast – this is where that feeling of “I just have to check out where this road leads…“. So off I went. I arrived in a town called Moraira. I parked the car and started walking along the coastal path, where the water had this beautiful blue color that just mesmerises you.

I continued down towards the beach. From there my eye caught a tower on the top of a mountain 👀 Once again THAT feeling. So I kept walking. I walked up the steep, small streets of Moraira (great way to reach your 10.000 steps).
I reached the end of Calle Puerto de Alcudia, which is where the walk up to the tower actually starts. It’s possible to drive all the way up to this point. When you arrive, you will see a sign showing you the way to the tower (30min walk). Follow the white and green markers.

The first 10min of the walk was a bit of a challenge, as it is a small stony path, with very slippery stones. With just a little bit of rain, some of these stones would be super slippery, so make sure to wear non-slippery shoes and go on a non-rainy day. The rest of the path was small, stony and more comfortable to walk on 👟
Half way up the path, it splits into two, with a sign leading up to the tower and another sign leading down to some caves. That day I kept walking up towards the tower.

I reached the top of the mountain and the tower – Yay! I had the top of the mountain, the tower and a stunning 360º view all to myself. I spent a good while enjoying the views of the coast line leading north towards Valencia and then another good while admiring the views to Calpe and Benidorm in a far distance 😍
A few fun facts: The tower was built in the 16th century in Renaissance style as a defense tower. It’s 11m tall and built on the highest point on the Cape of Gold (Cap d’oro) to guard the coast again pirates.

Did I get you excited about this walk? Do you want to explore it for yourself? If so, this is where the path begins 👇
